Nearby Lookup

Discover what's near an IP's approximate location — nearby restaurants, parks, schools, transit, local crime data where available, and an on-demand driving commute estimate.

Enter an IP address above and press Look up.

Starting from the IP's existing city-level geolocation, this reverse-geocodes to a neighbourhood/city/region label, then pulls nearby points of interest and (where a data source exists) local crime context.

Coverage

Crime data
UK (data.police.uk) and US (FBI Crime Data Explorer) only — every other country shows no crime section, an honest gap rather than a placeholder.
Points of interest
Restaurants, parks, schools, transit stops, and notable nearby landmarks — global coverage via OpenStreetMap and Wikidata.
Commute estimate
Driving time only, computed on demand once you enter a destination — not shown by default.

FAQ

It requires a destination, which only you can provide — enter one in the Places card once results load.
Reverse geocoding and points of interest work globally; crime data is UK/US only (see Coverage above).

About this tool

The nearby places lookup shows what is around the approximate location of an IP address: restaurants, parks, schools and transit, local crime statistics for the UK and US, and an on-demand driving commute estimate to an address you enter.

How it works

The address is first turned into an approximate point, then nearby points of interest are retrieved from open map data, and the commute is calculated only when you ask for it.

What to keep in mind

IP geolocation is approximate, frequently accurate to the city level only, so the places shown are around that point and not around a precise home or business. Crime data is available only where public datasets exist and is not comparable between countries.

Common uses

It illustrates how a location signal can personalize an experience, and it helps with quick neighborhood research for a given area.
